Reading Week

The kids were able to celebrate each day of Nevada Reading Week by dressing up each day.

Monday they dressed up as a Super Hero.  We couldn’t find Curtis’s super hero cape so we pulled out his Mario costume.  Mario saves a princess so he must be a super hero, right?  Alessia wore her Princess cape with a bunch of other pieces of clothing layered underneath.  Micah got into the action too and wore his batman shirt.  Alessia didn’t want Gianluca to feel left out so she grabbed one of his bibs and put it on him backwards as if it were a cape.  At morning ceremony Batman arrived on his motorcycle. It was pretty cool.   All the student council kids got to get their picture taken with him after morning ceremony.  Curtis is on Student Council this year as president of his class (Not school President).

Tuesday was career day.  Alessia decided she wanted to be a nurse when she found rubber gloves at the doctors office the day before.  She made herself a paper stethoscope and some other tool that she taped to her shirt.  We turned a Krispy Kreme hat into a Nurses cap.  Curtis’ dream job has not changed since he was 5.  He still wants to be a newspaper delivery boy.  I keep trying to tell him that when he is older there probably won’t be newspapers anymore but he doesn’t care.  He may be the last newspaper boy ever to roam the planet.

Wednesday the kids dressed up at their favorite book character. Curtis just wore a cat in the hat t-shirt.  Alessia dressed up as La La Loopsey.

I can’t remember the other days. I  am sure one was pajama day. I am guessing by the end of the week I got tired of finding outfits to go with the theme and also stopped taking pictures.

As part of reading week each class in each grade level was in a competition to see who could read the most minutes.  Curtis took it pretty seriously and read whenever he could.  He wasn’t too happy when his class didn’t win.  Alessia’s class however did win and she was thrilled when they got to celebrate the following week with Popsicles.

Also, each of the kids teachers called them once during the week and caught them reading.  They each got a reading bracelet for being caught.

I wish each week the only homework we had was reading. My kids read so much that week.  We don’t read as much normally because we are too busy doing all their other homework.
