The Last Day of School

Another school year has come and gone.  Curtis finished third grade.  He had a good year.  He had a lot of crazy little adjustments at the end without a permanent teacher for that last few weeks.  But he just went with the flow and did well.  While Curtis doesn’t always get the best grades he does love learning.  He tries to soak up as much information as possible.  His reading level improved drastically this year.  His teacher said he was a joy to have and was always well behaved.  He came home with the Principal’s Award this year.  He now has a cool medal he can wear around his neck.

Alessia finished Kindergarten this year. I really cannot believe it.   Her teacher said she had a love and energy for learning. I am pretty sure that energy of learning meant she was hyper.  She loves to be the center of attention.  She loves to answer every question and comment on everything.  When her teacher first started giving out marbles for good behavior Alessia was not earning them.  She just could not stop talking.  This was something I wasn’t use to as a parent since Curtis was the opposite and didn’t talk much at school.  Well after a few reinforcements from home (No marble=No Gymnastics) she started to earn them. By the end of the year I didn’t even have to ask every day if she earned a marble because she finally had learned how to behave in the classroom.   Alessia did well in Kindergarten.  She can read easy readers.  She loves to write sentences and try and spell out her words.  She is ready for the first grade!

Walking to school one last time in the morning heat

(Curtis begged me to drive every day but I couldn’t justify driving when we live a half mile from the school.  My friend, Allyson was nice enough to give him rides home from school since I refused to pick him up as well).

By the end of the year this guy decided he hated the stroller. I am hoping having a few months break from the daily walks will make it so he will sit nicely in it next year.

On the last day of school the kids get to bring one game from home and share it with the class.  Curtis brought his little boxing game.  As soon as he walked in the gates of the school he had a group of kids all over him wanting to play with it.
