Diamond Head

John and I have hiked Diamond Head a lot.  I did it 9 months pregnant with Curtis, hoping it would put me in labor but it didn’t.  When we visited Hawaii when Curtis was 4 and Alessia was one we hiked it as well.  We knew that we wanted to hike it on this trip as well.

We got a later start than we were hoping.  Which meant we hiked it in the afternoon when the sun was completely out.  It was hot and humid.

The first part of the hike is a paved trail leading to the real trail head.  After walking just a few minutes Micah was already complaining he was tired and wanted to be held.  I was worried that we weren’t going to make it or if we did it was going to take a long time and John and I would each have to carry a kid.

Luckily though when we reminded Micah that he was 4 now and much stronger he decided he could do it.  He loves Mountains too.  And so I showed him the Mountaina and told him we were going to climb all the way to the top.  He was so excited.  He ended up walking the entire way.

The best part is we made it to the top and played around a little and then headed back down.  About half way down Micah asked when we would be at the top of the Mountain.  Poor kid didn’t realize we had already made it to the top and now were heading back.

Curtis and Alessia also did a great job hiking.  They pretty much ran all the way back.  They had so much energy.

Gianluca received a lot of attention from the Asian tourist.  John even let some tourist hold Gianluca for a picture.  Gianluca wasn’t too sure about all the attention.

I love Diamond Head.  It is  a good hike.  There is a bit of switch backs and a lot of stairs to climb up and down.  The view is worth all of the hard work of hiking.  Every look out they have has a  gorgeous view.

After the nice hike we treated the kids to snow cones.  It was a nice way to cool off.  We were going to hit the beach on the way home too but decided to just go home and watch a movie.  It was the end to a great day.

(I should add that while the hike was fun the hour plus ride to and from was full of lots of whining kids.  Hawaii was an awesome trip but I don’t want to fool people into believing it was all perfect.  We had our kids with us and they are not always happy.  There was a lot of temper tantrums and whining.  But in the end it was all worth it and hopefully when they do look back at this blog post and pictures they will remember all the fun we had despite all their protest).
