Tropical Storm Flossie decided to make a visit while we were in Hawaii. It wasn’t a bad storm. Just a bit of wind and a lot of rain.
There was a lot more speculation of what could happen compared to what did. Which, I guess is a good thing.
Flossie put a damper on a bit of our plans. It was our last week in Hawaii and I wanted to go out and do everything else that was on our list.
After waiting out the storm a few days I finally had enough of the house and decided we would just go out in the rain.
We decided to head back to Haleiwa and do some shopping. The kids wanted to buy an Ukulele. As we were driving the rain kept getting worse but then it started to let up a little. It didn’t take long to realize that the storm was actually coming from the direction we were going. It actually worked out quite nicely because once we got to Haleiwa the storm had moved on.
We got to the shops around 9 but then learned they didn’t open until 10. I couldn’t believe tourist shops opened so late.
So the kids and I decided to hit the park to play while we waited.
We went to Haleiwa Beach Park. I was a little nervous when I got there because there were a lot of homeless men hanging around.
We decided to still hit the play ground and play. We then found a little girl who was homeless playing. It was so sad to think that this little girl had slept outside in the rain all night because she had no home to call her own. She was a beautiful little girl and so nice and friendly.
The night before the winds were so fierce a palm tree was knocked down. She said her Uncle was sleeping right next to it but luckily it fell the opposite direction from where he was laying.
When we left the park I tried to explain to my kids how fortunate they are. They were quite confused and still don’t seem to understand that not all children have homes to live in and food for every meal.
It was definitely an eye opening experience for all of us.
