Annie

One morning right after John had dropped the kids off of school I got a call from the school. I assumed they were calling to tell us one of our kids was sick.  John and I both had woken up sick that morning.  I was so sick that I fell asleep before taking the kids to school (hence the reason John took the kids to school).  Luckily for the kids they were all well.  The assistant principal was calling to see if Curtis could participate in the school play, Annie that night.  I guess the person who was playing the dog cancelled.  Curtis’s teacher asked him if he would do it and he said yes.

I was shocked.  This is my child who hates to get up in front of people and his teacher was able to get him to say yes to participating in the school play. I was so excited.  He also hates face paint.  Like hates it so much that he has refused to ever allow it to touch his face.  When I was told they would have to face paint his nose I was thrilled.

After I talked to the assistant principle Curtis’s teacher called me to see if I could run some clothes up to school.  She told me that Curtis told her he had lots of brown colored pants. I reminded her that Curtis is color blind and that he doesn’t actually own brown clothes.  Luckily, I was able to find a pair of light brown dress pants.  He didn’t have a brown shirt though so he had to wear one of mine.

I ran the clothes up to school and then came home and crashed. I was still so sick. My body couldn’t function. I think I took 4 long naps that day.

Curtis preformed for the school during the day. Then at night he preformed for all the families who came out to see the play.  John and I were able to get a last minute babysitter so we could watch him preform.

He made a great Sandy. It was actually a perfect role for him.  He didn’t have to say a thing.  He just played the part of a shy dog.  He did great.  All the students did. I wasn’t expecting much. I actually thought it was going to be pretty bad.  But it wasn’t.  The kids did fantastic.  Curtis’s teacher Ms. Tiesling did such a great job leading the drama club.

At the end his teacher made sure to recognize him in front of everyone since his name wasn’t in the program. It was so nice of her.  I think she may have an extra member of the drama club next year.

After the play the kids got to hang out and eat snacks with each other. It is always fun for me to be able to watch my kids interact with their peers.  Curtis is a quiet kid but he is still pretty popular.  He has a lot of friends.  It is always fun to see him spending time with those in his class.
