Our good friends, Brad and Terry Bennett are preparing to move in the next month. We have known them for at least five years. They have been our children’s surrogate grandparents. Our kids love them. In fact last Sunday Micah’s primary teacher told them she was going to be out of town the next two weeks. Micah then says, “yeah, Sister Bennett is going to be our teacher”. So his teacher had to call up Sister Bennett and see if she could sub his class just for him.
Since the Bennetts are moving before we come back from our month long adventure in Utah we have had to cram in as much fun with them as we can before we leave. This week we have done a lot of fun things with them. One was going up to Mt. Charleston for a picnic.
John had to stay home and work but the rest of us crammed our van full of people and stuff and headed up. It was so nice up in the mountains. It was only 60 degrees. It felt so nice to put on jeans and sweat shirts.
We found a fun little picnic area to hang out at. We roasted hot dogs wrapped in bacon and made s’mores. I think Gianluca ate only chocolate while we were there. Gianluca is the energizer bunny when you are out and about. He missed both his morning and afternoon naps but he wasn’t cranky. He was as happy as can be exploring the picnic area.
Brad brought all the stuff needed to shoot off baking soda/vinegar rockets. The kids actually made all the tubes that you put the baking soda in. We shot off a lot of rockets.
Brad also took all the kids on a short hike. When they returned we started to pack up. He ended up taking the older kids on another hike while we finished loading the car.
It really was a fun day. We really should spend more time up at Mt. Charleston. Especially in the summer. Hopefully after the Bennetts are done exploring the world they will come back to us and we can go again with them.
